It seems as though there have been many different kinds of slavery throughout history; and many different people or people groups have been slaves.
In the 1600’s the British sold the Irish as slaves, causing Ireland’s population to drop from 1,500,000 to 600,000.
But the one that happened most recently is the slave trade of the Africans sold to Britain and the America’s. Britain’s slavery was abolished in 1833; America’s was not abolished until 1865.
So there is a little back story.
I believe slavery is wrong; I have my whole life. The thought of being owned by another person is horrible. What is worse is being owned by another human that doesn’t think you’re human because of the color of your skin.
The way slaves were treated in America had a lot of range. Some slaves were treated horribly others were treated somewhat kindly. But the stories that Thompson told were beyond horrible, they were down right evil.
I don’t believe I will ever forget the story of the eight year old girl. We have all grown up with the story of the African’s being betrayed by their brothers and being sold to the white men for beer, tobacco, and what not. but it’s when we have a specific persons story to put it with it that it becomes all the more real. That is when we see how badly some slaves were treated.
So in answer to your question. Yes. His evidence was very persuasive.
